2014 was a ground breaking year for AC Solar in Australia, with huge growth experienced in the sector due largely to the inherent advantages of the technology. Safety. Performance. Reliability.
2015 is now well and truly underway, and in just a few weeks (on February 6th) the requirements of the latest version of AS/NZS 5033 become mandatory for all solar installations up to 240kW. As with previous revisions, this version of the standard is in many ways making the installation of AC Solar systems easier, while continuing to impose additional requirements on DC systems in order to better manage the related risks. (eg. DC wiring and switchgear)
We recommend that all solar installers obtain a copy of the revised standard (available here) and read it thoroughly.
For example, did you know that while it is mandatory to earth the rails and modules on all microinverter and AC module installations, in many cases this can now be done without having to run a separate earth wire to the roof? Providing certain conditions are met, equipotential bonding of rails and modules can now be achieved using the earth wire contained within the AC cable running from the switchboard to the roof – even if the earth is only 2.5mm2.
